From Skyler's second quarter report card (Mr. Parr):

"January 2008
Skyler is a very dependable, enthusiastic second grader who has a happy attitude toward school. She has displayed the characteristics of a fluent reader and is currently above grade level. She is reading silently with independence and reading aloud with expression and fluency. She is using a variety of strategies to read unfamiliar words, is able to comprehend and self-correct to gain meaning, summarizes and makes meaningful predictions and self-selects books of interest. Skyler is able to correctly determine whether a text is fiction or nonfiction and to identify specific features of the different genres of texts. During read alouds Skyler continues to participate in book talks and discussions. She is able to write a response to a text using text support and background knowledge to competely answer the question. The class benefits from Skyler's thoughtful ideas. She remains alert throughout the day and pays close attention during instruction. Thank you for your loving support at home, Skyler is an exceptional student!"

And for those who care, she is currently halfway through the last book in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy! At age 7!!
